"Zachary J. Frazee is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Rochester, NY. He received his BFA in Dance from SUNY Brockport in 2014 and is now the Owner and Artistic Director of Frazee Feet Dance, a project-based contemporary dance company dedicated to creating and performing original works throughout the Rochester area and beyond. Frazee is also a budding photographer and recently started his own photography business, ZJFrazee Photography, where he specializes in working with artists.
Frazee was primarily trained in modern dance but has danced professionally in the realms of classical ballet and modern/contemporary dance. He has and continues to dance with companies and choreographers such as the New York State Ballet (2014-2017), Saratoga City Ballet (2018-present), Nacre Dance Group (2018-present), James Hansen Assemblage Dance (2012-2013), Flower City Ballet (2010-2013), electricGrit Dance (2018-present), Project 44 (2019), William Evans (2011-2013), Cheryl Johnson (2014), Zoe Cushman Walders (2019-present), and BIODANCE (2018-present). His unique combination of experiences in both classical ballet and modern dance has developed into a movement style he describes as “modern ballet” which can also be seen in his choreography.
Frazee’s main passion is to create. His choreographic work has been presented at events such as the Rochester Fringe Festival, Brockport Alumni Dance Choreographer’s Showcase, Vision of Sound New Music & Dance Festival, SUNY Fredonia Senior BFA Concert, “So You Think You Can Choreograph” presented by Nacre Dance Group, the Mid-Atlantic Choreographers Showcase, NACHMO Studio Showings, BANDchicago, Small Plates Choreography Festival, Youth America Grand Prix, Prix de New York, and other various dance competitions. Frazee has also been commissioned to create work for the New York State Ballet, MAYHEM//Dance, the Empire State Youth Dance Ensemble, Saratoga City Ballet, and Lindenwood University. He has created three evening length programs with Frazee Feet Dance, most recently their virtual performance of SHIFT in the 2020 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival, and has toured various pieces of Frazee Feet Dance repertoire across the country.
When he is not performing or creating, Frazee teaches locally at Fitzsimmons Dance Factory and Jody B’s Studio of Dance where he mainly teaches contemporary and ballet technique. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. Along with this, Frazee runs his own private lesson business, offers master classes and guest choreography to dance studios in and out of Rochester, and now is teaching Pilates at Evolution Pilates of Rochester where he received training through their Teacher Training for Dancers in 2018. His teaching style and philosophy is rooted in somatics and artistry in that he is interested in making movement accessible, enjoyable, and three-dimensional for each person he works with.
Frazee utilizes his multiple interests and skill sets to work as a full-time artist which brings him great pride and joy. His art is intertwined with every aspect of his life and he thoroughly enjoys sharing his love of creativity with those around him.
